Newberry House is situated on the magnificent Lourensford Estate, widely regarded as one of the world’s most beautiful wine estates, showcasing over 4 000 hectares of forest, fynbos, fruit orchards and vineyards rising up the slopes of the majestic Helderberg Mountains.
We are very grateful to be a part of the greater Lourensford community, which allows us many opportunities to offer our students an enriched educational experience:
• Coffee Roastery: Our Middle School students recently attended a course run by the Lourensford Coffee Roastery. Apart from learning how to make great coffee, they also learned about the history, geography and socioeconomic aspects of coffee. Shortly afterwards, they learned first-hand about the business side by launching Middle Ground, their very own coffee brand, which has been quite a hit with our parents!
• Lourensford Market: There are fewer places less exciting than a bustling marketplace! We are very grateful to Lourensford for the opportunity to make use of their Market as a venue for some of our market days, offering our students a real taste of micro-entrepreneurship in an authentic setting.
• Wines2Whales: Our students have learned service for the greater community by manning water tables and serving as marshals for the Lourensford leg of this very popular multi-stage mountain bike race.
• Endless trails: Newberry House has been granted permission to mountain bike and trail run at designated times on some of the most pristine trails in the country.
• Millhouse kitchen: This characterful restaurant has given our students a great “taste” of what it is like to work in the hospitality industry!
• Laurent Function Venue: We are very grateful to the Aleit Group for the opportunity to host our Matric farewell in one of the most stunning venues in the country!
• Outdoor education: Our students have ample opportunities to learn about our local flora and fauna up close, whilst at the same time being able to give back to the community by helping with projects such as clearing alien vegetation.
• Life Retreat Studio and Shop: Life Retreat offers individuals and companies classes, retreats and wellness experiences here on Lourensford. Or simply visit their wellness shop – in person or online. Newberry staff and parents enjoy wonderful discounts at Life Retreat Studio.
Newberry House also borders on the highly-acclaimed Erinvale Estate and Golf Club, where our students can hone their long and short game through the EOGA Golf Academy.
